Baptism
The sacrament of Baptism is celebrated once a month, on the fourth Sunday, following instruction by a minister. Please contact a minister to arrange an infant or adult baptism.
Communion
Communion is served weekly at the 8:30 AM service, and on the first Sunday of each month at 11 AM. It is also celebrated at special seasonal services throughout the year. Fairmount practices "open" communion--members and non-members alike are welcome to receive the elements. Jesus Christ is the "host" of the meal and invites those who trust Him--and those struggling to trust Him--to eat and drink.
The Sacrament of the Lord's Supper (also called "communion") is the church's ritual meal celebrating God's love in Jesus Christ, remembering Christ's sacrificial death, and nourishing the people for service in the world. Shared bread and non-alcoholic grape juice make the grace of God visible and concrete, and the communion table becomes a symbol of the unity we have with God and one another.
Sometimes the bread and cup are served to worshipers by the elders; other times worshipers are invited forward to receive the elements. With either format, prayers of gratitude are offered, joyful hymns are sung, and offerings of life and labor are dedicated.
