Welcome ...
to another season of The Fairmount Music Series, featuring two major choral highlights! The nternationally-acclaimed 40-voice Gloriæ Dei Cantores, directed by Elizabeth Patterson, will make Fairmount their only concert stop on their way from New York to Chicago on October 15. Their program will include Gregorian chant, English Tudor anthems, Russian classics, and 20th century American and French works. Their concert at St. John’s Cathedral a few years ago was packed! And on March 1 the choirs from co-sponsors Fairmount, First Baptist and Plymouth Churches and a 42-member orchestra will be led by distinguished conductor Robert Page (longtime choral director for the Cleveland Orchestra) in Haydn’s The Creation. This continues the three-church concert tradition — this year the first time at Fairmount—and marks the 200th anniversary of Haydn’s death.
The Series includes five splendid concerts by our acclaimed Orchestra-in-Residence, CityMusic Cleveland. Our beautiful new chapel organ, built by son-of-the-congregation Charles Ruggles, is celebrated by a service of dedication/recital on October 5 and a recital with guest artists on May 3. The Fairmount Choir sings the Fauré Requiem in worship on November 2, and vocal fireworks are displayed in a Handelian concert featuring countertenor Daniel Schuetz and our own Lisa Litteral on April 26. Young artists are showcased in a Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra program on February 8, our own Choir section leaders lend their talents in a cabaret night (Dinner and Song) on January 31, and our congregation and friends will revel in the Feast of Carols and Pudding on December 14.
This is an ambitious season that deserves your attendance and support. Ten of our musical offerings this year are totally dependent on free-will offerings. Won’t you consider becoming a patron of the Series?
Please join us for a spectacular season!
