Approval of Amendment 14-F on Marriage
As of Tuesday, March 17, 2015, a majority of the Presbyteries in the PC (USA) have approved an amendment to our denomination's Book of Order that describes marriage as "a unique relationship between two people, traditionally a man and a woman." This change grants freedom of conscience to pastors in jurisdictions, where permitted by civil law, to perform wedding ceremonies for same-sex couples; it also allows Sessions to authorize the use of church facilities for such ceremonies. As a church that has sought to accept and include our LGBTQ brothers and sisters and to honor their covenants, we rejoice at this new level of inclusion. At the same time, we continue to appreciate the diverse theological perspectives in our congregation and denomination and pray that this diversity will continue to be honored and to bear fruit.
